TIEBREAK
Dimensions: 1.58 x 2 x 0.64 m
Materials: metal, nylon, 660 tennis balls
The Tiebreak refers to the most intense, high-stakes phase of the game: the threshold where physical performance meets ultimate mental strength. The piece elevates the iconic elements of tennis—the ball and the net—into a sacred context, condensing the recovery after the struggle and the preparation for the next decisive point into a single functional form.
Form and Concept:
Duality of Tension and Rest: The title “Tiebreak” injects the dynamics of the sport into the artwork. Here, the bed is no longer just a place for rest but a metaphor for the “calm before the storm,” where the athlete seeks the balance between mind and body.
Material and Structure: Built from a metal frame and nylon netting, the “mattress” is composed of 660 genuine tennis balls. This texture simultaneously evokes geometric order and a sense of elastic readiness.
International Recognition:
Belgrade (2023–2024): The work was exhibited for a full year at the Novak Djokovic Foundation headquarters, linking contemporary sculpture with the legacy of one of the world’s greatest athletes.
Cluj-Napoca (2024): The sculpture was featured at the Cluj Open WTA tournament, serving as a key visual element that celebrated the intersection of sport and art.
